In the midst of time’s dissolving whirlpool, how absurd that this tiny dot of richly concentrated brilliance should endure in a secure world of its own. As he watched, he gradually became fascinated. Little by little, the beetle kept edging its glittering body closer to him as if its pointless progress were a lesson that when traversing a world of unceasing flux, the only thing of importance...

the boss lady invited me to go ice skating today. i tried to explain that floridians do not ice skate but she would not accept that as a valid excuse. she gave me the angry eyes and told me that she’d pick me up at my apartment at 130. i have ridiculously bad balance when i am on my own two feet. i am trying to imagine how pathetic i am gonna look on a pair of skates. definitely not a pretty...

“What exactly did Peter believe in, wondered Jack in his transparency, watching Peter’s body dancing, glinting, in the light of the bonfire. Had it all been lies, then—-what Peter had once told him of the misery that settled on him every night like a heavy, sodden wad of cotton? Why, when solitude howling like the sea… bestrode the gaudy lights of the nocturnal city, should...

brerfly: Don’t you know the song?! It is a Mumblelard Family favorite.
The girls got to pick out the cat and name her but K and I couldn’t stand the first name they came up with: Meow Meow. Think about it. Calling your cat “Meow Meow” for more than ten years. So we suggested names, at least a hundred names....

i used to believe that we were meant to follow certain paths. things were “meant to be” and therefore, no matter what we did, they would happen. now i believe much more in taking personal responsibility for the choices we make. despite this though, sometimes i am still intrigued by how little i can change no matter how much effort i put into it. do you believe in fate/predestination?...
My mind then wandered. I thought of this: I thought of how every day each of us experiences a few little moments that have just a bit more resonance than other moments—we hear a word that sticks in our mind—or maybe we have a small experience that pulls us out of ourselves, if only briefly—we share a hotel elevator with a bride in her veils, say, or a stranger gives us a piece of bread to feed to...

“This waking dream we call the Internet also blurs the difference between my serious thoughts and my playful thoughts, or to put it more simply: I no longer can tell when I am working and when I am playing online. For some people the disintegration between these two realms marks all that is wrong with the Internet: It is the high-priced waster of time. It breeds trifles. On...
